Team ICS Make Great Strides Toward Charity Fundraising Target

A team of walkers at Lancaster-based contractor accountancy firm, ICS, are getting ready to put their best foot forward for the CancerCare Cross Bay Challenge.

The event, on Sunday 7th August, will be the company’s second charity fundraising event in their bid to raise £5,000 over the next 12 months for CancerCare and Defying Dementia.

The ICS team will walk a total of seven miles, from Gibraltar Farm Campsite in Silverdale, crossing over from Lancashire to the finish line in Cumbria, at the Flookburgh foreshore.

John Lyon, ICS managing director, said: “Since officially announcing our charity initiative last month, the whole ICS team has been extremely excited about our fundraising mission. We held our first event in May during Dementia Awareness Week, when we raised approximately £100 in staff donations and we also wore yellow to mark the week.”

John added: “The Cross Bay Challenge is our second event in a busy calendar of activities over the course of the summer, and we’re aiming to raise as much money as possible for these two amazing local charities that do incredible work in Lancaster and the surrounding areas.”

Christine Wardle, Head of Income Generation at CancerCare, said: “We are delighted that a staff team from ICS is taking the Cross Bay Challenge Walk to raise money for CancerCare. As a local charity, we rely completely on the support of the community we serve, so it is wonderful that ICS have chosen us as their charity of the year.”

Laura Slater, Defying Dementia Community Fundraiser, said: “Thank you to ICS who are doing a fantastic job of helping Defying Dementia raise awareness and funds about the neurodegenerative research conducted at Lancaster University.

“The funds raised by ICS will contribute to the final safety testing of an exciting new drug, which will hopefully stop Alzheimer’s disease in its tracks. Local support is really important to Defying Dementia, and we cannot thank ICS enough for their continued support of our campaign.”

ICS provides accountancy, administration and payroll services to contractors, freelancers and small businesses across the UK. Based in Lancaster Business Park on Caton Road, the firm currently employs 40 local people.
