St John’s Hospice seeks new Shops Director

St John’s Hospice Shops Limited is looking for a new director for the board which oversees the running of the ten charity shops in the area.

They are particularly looking for someone with strong retail experience for this voluntary position. The minimum commitment would be to attend 4 meetings per year but welcome any additional support too.

St John’s Hospice Shops Limited runs charity shops across the Lancaster, Morecambe, Kendal and Garstang areas, and the board of four current directors oversees the strategy, direction and performance of the shops.

The shops generate vital income for the St John’s Hospice and allow the charity to have a presence in the communities across the area that support it.

Richard Taylor, Chair of St John’s Hospice Shops board, says: “We are a welcoming and friendly team, and since the shops generate more than £250,000 per year for the Hospice, being a board director is also a very rewarding role. We are particularly looking for someone with experience of the retail sector, providing advice on how our shops can operate as effectively as possible and continue to offer a high standard of service to our local communities.”

St John’s Hospice provides specialist palliative care services to people in North Lancashire and South Cumbria coping with a life-limiting illness often in the last years of their life. As an independent hospice, all of its services are free of charge, and it relies on local supporters to raise over £7,000 every day just so that it can stay open.

If you are interested in this voluntary opportunity, please email your CV to or contact Richard Taylor, Chair, on 01524 542717 for an informal discussion.
