Oysters and Pearls

This year the Global theme for International Women’s Day is ‘Be Bold for Change’ and literally thousands of organisations and communities across the globe will join together to celebrate women’s journey towards parity.

International Women's Day is all about unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action - whatever that looks like globally at a local level. But one thing is for sure, International Women's Day has been occurring for well over a century - and continues to grow from strength to strength.

This year Role is partnering with two Lancashire colleges, Nelson and Colne and Lancaster and Morecambe, to inspire and encourage 70 female students during two days of motivation, debate, presentations and one to one mentoring. We hope to ignite some ‘sparks’ which will enable them to become a catalyst for change as they continue their education and consider their futures.
Wendy Bowers, Founder of Role and past President of East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce says, “ Our Oysters and Pearls events bring together local successful women with young girls who maybe need a little extra support. The events are facilitated by local professional actress Amy Strange and are full of motivation, debate and sharing. We want the girls to believe in themselves and their future. Delegates at previous events have said the day was ‘‘life changing’’ and teachers at Preston’s college said they visibly watched the girls ‘grow’ during the course of the morning.”
Lancashire is home to some of the world’s most innovative businesses - think Whatmore UK, MendIT, Performance Fluids. With your help, we can showcase a whole range of careers and opportunities available to our next generation. We can encourage them to aim high and aim local.

If you are a senior manager in any Lancashire organisation or a female business owner, please pledge just 5 hours of your time on the 6th March or the 8th March by following this link http://www.role.uk.com/events1.html

A hot buffet lunch will be served during the event and there is optional networking from 2 – 3pm with a glass of bubbly!

Role champions the benefits of Equality and Diversity in businesses and organisations across the UK. Providing mentoring, training and coaching to students, business women and future female leaders through a range of programmes and events.
