Local community-based energy organisation lighting up the area

MORE Renewables is a Lancaster- based community energy organisation which is currently looking for organisations with big roofs and large electricity bills who may be interested in reducing their costs through installation of solar photovoltaic systems, or which want to upgrade their lights to LED lights.

Gill Fenna, a director of MORE Renewables, who also works as an energy consultant, said: “Despite the drastic cuts in the Feed in Tariff last year, solar PV systems can still be viable on big, steel or tile roofs where most of the electricity produced will be used on site. We can provide all the capital costs for such systems, if the occupier of the building commits to buying the electricity from us, at a cheaper rate than they are currently paying.

We can also provide the capital for upgrading lights to LED.” As a community benefit society MORE Renewables is able to raise finance locally through the sale of community shares, and supports local projects which help people to reduce their energy use. They have raised nearly £200,000 in three share offers and own just under 100 kWp of solar PV on two sites, a solar thermal system and biomass boiler.
